Fate/Stay Night UBW - Archer (Alter) MyFigureCollection.net

Hi! I wanted to do a review of one of my figures, and saw that Alter's Archer didn't have a review yet, so I figured I'd do a review of him :) This is my first figure review, I hope the pictures are good enough because my phone camera is all I have atm :s If the pictures look small to you, you can click on them to make them bigger (or click your scroll wheel to open them in a new tab).

Due to the nature of this figure I will have to give a spoiler warning because one of his optional parts is kinda a spoiler for those of you who have not seen Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works (or played the VN). I will also keep those in a spoiler as well.

Archer is one of the seven servants summoned in Fate/Stay Night and the servant of Rin. He's probably one of my favourite servants because he's just so badass. Hence why I bought this figure of him. This was the third scale figure I ever bought and I got him somewhere in July 2016, bought from Yorokonde. Btw yes I do play Fate/Grand Order and no I don't own him as a servant yet ;_; Such is free2play life. The figure is loosely based on this art work (from the visual novel I assume?):

I say 'loosely', because while the pose is almost the same, his face bears more resemblance to his appearance in Ufotable's Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works, although I feel he looks somewhat younger. (He's also less buff than in the anime.) Actually, I should say that the figure is most similar to his appearance in Fate/Grand Order.

Box and blister
The box has a nice red-black color scheme, just like Archer himself. I put the box picture in a spoiler since his alternate head is depicted on the box as well. Yes the last picture is kinda different because I totally forgot to take a photo of one side of the box and I had already loaded my desk full of laptop again before I discovered that.

The blister does a good job of protecting the figure. There are two blisters: one for the main figure, the base, his swords and his alternate head, and a second blister for other alternate parts, a bow and arrow.

Weapon parts
Archer comes with two sets of weaponry: his signature dual swords Kanshou and Bakuya, and his bow and arrow Caladbolg. It's hard to see on the picture but the black sword actually has the red hexagonal pattern which is both sculpted and painted in.

Fun fact: when I first watched the anime I thought that his two swords were the same and that both had one side that was white and another side that was black with the red hexagonal pattern. It was not until I started looking at the pictures from this figure that I discovered that this was not the case.

The swords seperate like on the pic so you can put the hilt in his hand, but I have to say that the pegs are quite loose. The blades won't fall off on their own but a slight vibration is enough.

I think the handle of his bow can be seperated into multiple pieces but I've never bothered with that since it came assembled like this in the box and you can attach it this way to the main figure, no problem. The string of the bow is an actual thin metal string, so that's pretty neat.

The arrow (or more like a modified sword) has some nice silvery paint. You can also see that the attached hand is sculpted very nicely; his finger nails even have a glossy finish.

The base
The base is pretty simple, a glossy black circular disk with red text on it and a line. I tried to make an individual picture of it but because the thing is pretty damn reflective it would either reflect my face or the posters hanging above my desk so I just gave up. Both of his feet attaches to the base with two pegs so he stands pretty sturdy. Archer can stand without base as well but the tiniest disturbance will knock him over so that is not advisable.

The figure
This figure is what you can expect from Alter: no sculpt or paint flaws to be found. His red coat is shaded very nicely.

Close-ups:

The creases and folds in his clothes are sculpted really nice and I also like how the part that keeps his jacket together really looks like metal. I don't know how they managed to make that effect because it's not only silvery paint.

The legs are glossy enough to give a leathery vibe to his pants.

Even if he isn't as beefy as in the anime, he still shows plenty of muscle :3

Face
I think his face looks pretty good, despite some differences at least he looks like himself. His hair is also sculpted really well and true to the anime.

Comparing this face with his version in the anime, you'll notice that he really does look younger. It's especially the bigger/wider eyes that make him look more youthful as compared to the anime.

Now for his alternate head (spoilers!):
View spoilerHide spoilerHis alternate, or should I say EMIYA, head, makes him look more like his true identity, Emiya Shirou. His hairstyle changes and his eyes become rounder to resemble him more (and also making him look even younger). In the anime, Archer appeared briefly like this at the end of UBW right before he disappeared for good.

Here is a comparison between his two heads:

I personally always display him with his Archer head since that's just how I like him.

Enjoyment
I think the enjoyment level of this figure is pretty high; he has multiple display options which allows for some variation in your display so you don't get bored of him.

Another fun thing I noticed is that because his hands are fairly large, he can hold several other weapons from other figures I have. For example Matoi Ryuuko's scissor blades (from item/198444):

Or with two of Saber's swords:

For those of you who want to display him with a Rin that doesn't outscale him, there's a prize figure
item/263985 that complements him perfectly:

Furthermore I also expect him to look good with Cú Chulainn (Orange Rouge) item/603997 once he comes out. I'm getting him too, so I'll be sure to display them together!

All in all I get a lot of enjoyment out of this figure! For those of you who want him, he is scheduled for an (exclusive) rerelease in August 2018, the same month Aquamarine's Archer item/427563 will come out. I preordered Aquamarine's version too (because how could I possibly pass on an Archer that is so GAR) so maybe I will do another review and compare the two once I get him :)
